In the Carbonates of northern Alberta, Penn West holds approximately 500,000 net acres in both the Slave Point and Swan Hills areas. While portions of this play are in development, we continue to selectively appraise our positions at Red Earth, Sawn Lake, Senex and surrounding areas.
In the eastern Alberta portion of the Viking, we will continue to expand this play as our understanding of this area grows. Results in 2012 were encouraging and we expect to follow those up in 2013 and 2014 with further appraisal.
Our 100,000+ net acre position in the Duvernay at Willesden Green continues to be de-risked by offsetting industry activity. As we integrate released industry well information into our assessment and analysis our aim is to move forward with joint venture discussions.
In the Cordova shale gas joint venture, we will continue to appraise the reservoirs and optimize drilling and completion activities, but at a reduced pace compared to 2012, reflecting lower gas pricing.
In the Peace River Oil Project (PROP), Penn West will continue to drill vertical appraisal wells and operate our existing thermal pilot. In addition, we will complete construction of our second thermal pilot and commence steam injection in Q3 of 2013.
