Penn West’s commitment to safety
Safety is an integral part of Penn West Energy Trust’s activities – whether in the field, in the office or during travel between sites. Working safely plays a vital role in our operations and in our efforts to protect people and the environment. Penn West is committed to protecting its personnel and the public from accidents or incidents resulting from any of its operations.
Penn West meets these obligations by providing resources and taking the appropriate measures to protect and promote the health and safety of its employees and members of the public. A senior management member of Penn West is responsible for stewardship of managing and improving the Trust’s extensive safety programs.
Penn West's safety principles
Penn West has adopted the following principles and responsibilities related to safety:
- Safety policies, procedures and programs developed by Penn West shall meet or exceed legislative requirements;
- The Trust’s management shall ensure compliance by establishing appropriate programs and conducting audits of its operations;
- Compliance with safety policies and procedures is the responsibility of every employee and contractor, and is a condition of employment;
- Any injury and any serious incident shall be reported and investigated;
- All applicable jurisdictional regulations shall be enforced for the safety of work sites and all who set foot on them.
Why safety is important to Penn West
Many costs result from accidents and unsafe work practices, and the greatest is the human cost. Penn West’s safety programs protect not only the Trust and its employees, but also friends, families, fellow workers, the public and the environment, from the far-reaching effects of serious accidents. In the process, we protect our ability to continue to operate and employ people. Penn West’s senior management is committed to continually improving safety standards, programs, training, awareness – and, most important, the safety of its employees and contractor’s employees.
